Vehicle Description 1971 BMW 2800CS -Coupe - 5 speed -Outstanding This is very original documented two owner 1971 BMW 2800CS (Chassis:
2280295).
It has some service records, even going back to the 1970's, and remained with its original owner until the seller's acquisition in 2017.
Between 2013 and 2018 the car was mechanically refreshed, which included a new OEM style springs and Bilsteins, new OEM control arms, and conversion from an automatic to a BMW Getrag five-speed manual transmission.
The car is finished in metallic gray over the optional factory tan pigskin leather upholstery and powered by the original 2.
8-liter inline-six.
It is now equipped with twin Weber DGAV carburetors, a PerTronix ignition system, original 14 alloy wheels, a left-side mirror, air conditioning, power windows, and an AM/FM cassette stereo.
This E9 coupe is offered with a clean Tennessee title in the seller's name.
The car left the factory finished in Polaris Metallic (060) and was reportedly repainted by BMW in Anthracite Metallic in 1974 due to a factory paint finish issue.
Exterior features include chrome bumpers, bright metal trim, and quad headlights with yellow inner lenses.
The car was Ziebarted for rust protection when new, and the front and rear valances were refinished, the rocker panels were resealed, and undercoating was applied to the wheel wells and floor in the mid-2010's.
The factory automatic badge was also removed and the badge holes were plugged, and paintless dent removal and paint touch-ups were performed in 2018.
To correct some clearcoat crazing and some minor bubbling, the trunk lid was resprayed in 2023 with new OEM badging applied.
Alloy 14 wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with 195/70 Goodyear Integrity tires.
Stopping power is provided by disc brakes up front and drums out back.
With the refurbished suspension and the new Weber's and ignition system, this 2800CS runs and drives exceptionally well.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench (dual seating areas) trimmed in original OEM upgraded pigskin tan leather along with color-coordinated door panels and brown carpets.
Some front seating surfaces were repaired in 2018 using pigskin leather removed from the backs (behind) the seats and subsequently replaced.
The car is equipped with coco floor mats, and original wood accents on the dashboard and side panels.
The three point seatbelt retractors are working but a bit sticky.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,200-rpm redline, a combination gauge, and a clock.
The five-digit odometer is inoperative and shows 68k miles.
True mileage is unknown.
Recent service in November 2022 included recharging the air conditioning system and replacing the spark plugs and speedometer cable seal.
The correspondence from BMW Group Classic indicates the original color and delivery to Hoffman Motors in New York, New York.
Manufacturer's literature, replacement taillight lenses, and recent service records and some records dating to the 1970's are included in the sale.
