EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, Master's Degree preferred.
WORK
Experience:
Eight or more years development experience in designing of
electromechanical
products such as switches, lead frames, plastic housings or copper terminals.
Five or more years development experience in connector product design. Design experience in some of the following areas: plastic injection molding, plating, stamping and assembly.
REQUIRED:
CAD skills (2D and 3D).
Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance studies, statistical analysis, DOE and FEA.
Demonstrated team work skills.
Strong
computer
skills in spreadsheets, word processing and databases.
Previous experience with working in a team environment where the focus is on the larger organizational goal versus individual concerns.
Knowledge of metals, plastics, adhesives and the basic manufacturing required for their use.
Project leadership skills focusing in areas such as creating timelines for engineering deliverables, coaching and mentoring engineers, ownership in meeting engineering expectations and ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
COMPLETE DESCRIPTION
Owns design efforts in developing new connector and terminal and involved in all Product Development Phases required to bring concepts into production with minor supervision from Engineering

. Prepare presentation material for design reviews and customer meetings.
Responsible for approving Technical Assumptions and Requirements documentation that provide an outline for project scope. Develops, updates and approves Design FMEA. Responsible for design/product validation plan and report. Supports cross-functional feasibility reviews of new products.
Presents design concepts at design reviews, competitions, and at meetings with customers. Leads in customer's Product Design Team meetings. Provides team and customers with regular status updates. Provides technical support to customers both internal and external. Responds to questions/requests in a timely manner. Problem solving and troubleshooting in the reliability lab, over the phone or at the customer location.
Confirms product design intent. Performs and/or checks tolerance studies and other analyses required from the DFMEA to reduce and eliminate failure modes from designs before tool release. Checks manufacturing drawings for completeness and accuracy. Performs engineering tests and submits products for screen and qualification testing in the reliability lab.
Coordinates new product development, debug and release. Follows all product development steps, supplies tooling groups with necessary drawings for quoting and tool build. Assists and supports manufacturing in the debug process. Responsible for follow-up, documentation, publishing and expediting all action items of a new product program.
Follows and ensures compliance to company and engineering procedures and document control requirements.
Direct contact with internal departments (manufacturing, quality, lab, sales and marketing) to ensure design objectives are met in a timely manner and assists by providing product information, engineering samples and technical advice. Also direct contact with suppliers and customers.
Shows responsibility in leading and coaching new engineers. Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to management.
Manages the activities of multiple programs simultaneously.
Understand, support and contribute to current Molex Total Quality Management (TQM), Six Sigma, International Standards Organization (ISO) and Environmental, and/or Health and Safety (EH&S) Management Systems by following stated policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
